Tips for computer users to avoid back, neck and shoulder pain

It has been months we are fighting with covid pandemic. Every day is challenging for all of us. Pandemic is changing our lifestyle. Many of us are working from home now, trying to adapt with new work environment. Kids are also learning from home. Ultimately, we all spend lot of time in front of the screen and many times with bad posture. Due to lack of proper ergonomic posture, lack of exercise and not having regular breaks many of us are suffering from back, neck and shoulder pain. Choosing right posture can help us to prevent these injuries.

To help prevent these injuries following are few tips for all computer users.

  1. Keep feet flat on floor or use footrest to adjust height. Try to keep hips, knees, and elbows at comfortable angle, close to 90 degrees.
  2. Make sure upper and lower back are supported. Adjust backrest to support the curve in lower back.
  3. Position screen at arm’s length slightly below eye level and directly in front of you.
  4. If using laptop for extended period, plug it into a normal size screen.
  5. Avoid bright light shining on screen and use larger font size.
  6. Limit computer use to one hour. Take regular breaks. Do some stretching of back, legs, wrist, fingers, and shoulder.
  7. Maintain your general fitness and flexibility by following daily exercise routine.

  9. Pranayama can help you to reduce stress on body and mind.
  10. If you feel any discomfort or pain in any part of your body check your posture, take regular breaks, and see your doctor.
